Combating WVR
This WVR is a pain. With the power to directly manipulate the nerve impulses of a subject remotely, it is possible to be under virtual influence anytime, anywhere. Without even knowing. Not an ideal situation.
But fear not. You are not helpless. The friendly staff of Labresci have the answer.
The Camp Woodlands system manipulates the sensory nerves directly, inputting information directly into your brain. This information is then added to the information obtained through more conventional methods, such as your eyes for example, by the brain itself. Through constant monitoring of the environment which you are in, taking the information directly from you no less, the virtual reality system can fit its information to that which you obtain yourself; allowing for a seamless real-virtual crossover.
However, this requires good computing speeds in order to maintain synchronisation between the virtual and real information. In most cases this can be done to a degree which a human can’t detect any misfit. But that is where we come in.
Through the use of more conventional virtual reality units, the sensory input of the person can be altered in a predictable, time-dependent fashion, for instance flickering of an image. If done at a reasonable frequency, this can cause an observable de-synchronisation between virtual and real due to the time lag introduced by the computing process.
Allow me to simplify. Say you turned your head. What you see with your eyes would change and the virtual world will have to be adjusted to accommodate this change in perspective. If a virtual bear was sitting on a real chair, the chair would appear to move in your perspective, so the bear must also move; otherwise the virtual world would make no sense. There will be a small lag which we will view as the ripple caused in a lake when you push your arm in the water. It will dissipate quickly and you may miss it. However, changing the subject’s view of the real world rapidly through artificial means would be akin to moving your arm in and out of the water rapidly resulting in a continuous production of ripples which you could observe.
So what I am suggesting Steph is that if you put special, let’s say magical, glasses on, you can see the difference between a real object and a virtual object. Pretty Neat ay.
And thus, we have a 1AM explanation of how to combat the Head Councillor’s VR. Though this doesn’t extend into anything other than visual yet. That meaning that being shot by a virtual gun could still be a shock to the system as it still feels as real as hell. Though I stand against Matt’s insta-kill theory. At least at this current point in time.
Virtual Reality Network
Otherwise known as WVR, the Virtual Reality Network is the technology that the head counselor and his agency have been developing over the last ten years or so.
It operates wirelessly, using radio towers to transmit specific frequencies designed to interact with the human mind. The network is powered by a massive super computer hidden deep in the agency headquarters, which does all the calculations necessary to keep the network working.
The network works by registering each person by their unique 'mind frequency'. This register process, known as 'locking on', takes some time to do and must be done under the supervision of a network administrator (someone with network privileges), but since most of the test subjects were present at the camp ten years ago, their data (and mind frequency) have already been logged with the network.
When the network has logged a person's mind frequency, it is able to track the location of this person, as long as they are in range of a radio tower or other radio device. However, the further they are from such a radio device, the more processing power is needed to locate them, and thus this type of tracking can only be done when the network is not tied up with more important tasks.
As well as tracking, the main purpose of the network is to make the person see things that don't actually exist-hence, virtual reality. Depending on what instructions the network has for a particular person, the network can make them see different things. They might see images targeted only to them or images that are meant for a whole group of people under the influence of the network.
Unless the person as had extensive training with virtual reality, most people would think the images they see are real and so their mind and body act accordingly to such images. For example, if they are shot with a gun that was only an image created by the network, they will think they have actually been shot and they might fall unconscious.
If the network has permission to do so, it can make these images and their effects incredibly real, and thus convince even the most resistant that what they are seeing is real. This takes a lot of processing power, however, and can only be targeted to a few people at any one time and only for a certain amount of time before the network defaults to the normal level of virtual reality.
The network treats network administrators (those with network privileges) a little differently. These people are aware of the base level images (images targeted to the whole group of people) but are not affected by them. Depending on their privilege level, they can also request an active virtual space if the network has not been activated in their specific area, and make specific virtual images targeted to whomever they want.
The network is permanently connected to these administrators so that it can respond to any mental requests by the administrators. If one has high enough privileges, they can also access the network by a physical terminal and have greater control over the instructions/visuals issued to specific people. As of the current moment, only the head counselor and his two vice counselors know where and how to access these physical terminals, as the network is such a secretive technology.
The head counselor is undertaking his final test of the network on the campers, masking its use with a fireworks display.
Hannah's Conspiracy Theory
I tend to believe that there is something very wrong happening in Camp Woodlands and I would be surprised if you hadn't noticed something strange too. For instance... As far as we know there has only been one Camp Woodlands which was ten years ago at the same time as global change such as the moons ceasing orbit, hearing voices, and what's this about a super computer under a lake? Also there is this VR (Virtual Reality), a very dangerous thing to be playing with.
So this is where I get to my theory about an apparent secret organisation orchestrated by the "Head Counselor" or Bob as I'd like to now call him. So Bob has developed this idea of world domination in which he controls (or manipulates) all people to recognize him as their leader. To do this he has built a secret organisation to build super technologies such as VR to the point of capturing masses of people in a Virtual Reality world without containing them to a room or connecting them to a machine of any kind. Wireless Virtual Reality (WVR)!
As for the moon! Some how manipulating the natural movement of a giant rock in space, Bob has created an incognito giant reflector with which he will use to spread the WVR capabilities all over the globe! So why has the kids from ten years ago come back? Because they are his test subjects! The test failed ten years ago but it gave Bob a lot of clues on how to improve so his organisation has been developing the WVR for ten years and has reached a point where it has surpassed his first expectations. Who knows, maybe he used the WVR reflected on the moon to subconsciously convince all his test subjects to return.
Think about it...

I think that looking at all the things I've updated to this site it is obvious that I am a very visual person (character pictures, graphs and charts) lol.
ReplyDeleteIt makes life interesting. Or at least this site pretty to look at. XD
ReplyDeleteIt is both of those things and so much more :P
ReplyDeleteI like how Chloe is in the middle of the character chart :D everyone/thing revolves around her.
Everyone check out my Conspiracy Theory! I'm sure we're all thinking the same thing but someone had to say it, lol.
ReplyDeleteThat's...uh... very well thought out!
ReplyDeleteI've added a piece about virtual reality on this page which I think everyone should read. Hopefully it clears some details up and gives you some ideas. I think it's good to have all these details in one place, so if you're feeling confused, you can refer back to here.
ReplyDeleteAnd thus I have contributed somewhat to the site. 'bout stinkin' time I say.
ReplyDeleteHaha! Good stuff.
